Zonta Says No Golf Day
This year, I am proud to be the major sponsor for the “Zonta Says No” Golf Day held at the Maryborough Golf Course.
Over the last decade, I have acted for many parties in Family Law, Parenting and Property Settlement disputes who have suffered domestic and family violence. I have seen first hand the effect domestic and family violence has on people and how this continues to be an issue in our society.
Statistics recently released by the Queensland Courts on Domestic Violence indicate that:-
1. For the 2023 year up to 31 May, 29,296 Initiating Applications were filed in Queensland for Domestic and Family Violence Protection Orders;
2. In the above period, 14,556 applications were filed in Queensland to vary Domestic Violence and Family Protection orders;
3. 75.1% of Applications in this period were for female aggrieved persons and 24.7% of Applications in this period were for male aggrieved persons. There was 0.2% of Applications for which gender was reported to be unknown;
4. 70.5% of Applications in this period related to parties who were in an intimate personal relationship; and
5. 6,564 Defendant’s who were convicted of the criminal offence of Contravening a Domestic Violence Order during that period received Imprisonment/Detention as the penalty.
Zonta’s ongoing work focuses on bringing these issues out from behind closed doors into the light, advocating to end gender based violence.
I feel humbled to be able play a part in supporting such a worthy cause within the Maryborough Community where I see these issues on a regular basis in my practice as a Family Law Lawyer working in Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Gympie and beyond.
