Drink Driving and Drug Driving

Operation Victor Mistletoe being conducted by Queensland Police is now well underway. This police blitz targets drink driving and drug driving offending over the Christmas period. This is a statewide drink driving and drug driving operation where extra police will be out in force to try to ensure everyone makes it home safely over the festive season.

With more than 20% of road fatalities in QLD reportedly being linked to drink driving, police minister Mark Ryan said "December is typically filled with special events where family, colleagues or friends celebrate together…The message is simple: if you are planning on drinking - do not plan to drive…One life lost on our roads is one too many and we do not want to see any further tragedies, particularly at Christmas.”

While there is a strong focus on drink driving and drug driving offences, the operation also includes enforcement strategies to also target speeding, driver distraction and not wearing a seatbelt. Queensland Police will be conducting Operation Mistletoe through to 25 January 2024 aimed at drink driving and drug driving offenders.
